In a recent development, authorities in Jammu apprehended an individual from the Gandhi Nagar area today for allegedly peddling counterfeit Kent RO systems, the police reported.
The incident unfolded when Deepak Kumar, representing M/s Kent RO Systems Limited, filed a complaint at the Gandhi Nagar police station. The complaint highlighted the unauthorized sale of imitation RO systems bearing the company's branding by certain establishments in the locality.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, law enforcement officials registered a case (FIR No. 67/2023) under relevant sections of the Copyright Act, 1957, and the Indian Penal Code, including sections 63, 65, 420, 483, and 486.
Following a thorough investigation, authorities conducted a raid on the premises of the firm suspected of selling counterfeit RO systems in Gandhi Nagar. Subsequently, it was uncovered that the establishment was involved in the illicit manufacturing, distribution, and sale of products closely resembling those of the complainant's company. Moreover, the accused had allegedly replicated the artistic work associated with the "Kent" brand name and product packaging.
The police emphasized that such actions constitute a breach of the copyright vested in the complainant company's artistic work under the Copyright Act, 1957. During the raid, law enforcement seized a total of 19 filters bearing the "Kent" mark. Additionally, the individual responsible for the unlawful activities was promptly arrested and charged with the offenses.
Authorities have affirmed their commitment to conducting further investigations into the matter to ensure that all involved parties are brought to justice. As the investigation progresses, efforts to clamp down on the proliferation of counterfeit goods in the region are expected to intensify, reinforcing the importance of upholding intellectual property rights and combating illicit trade practices.
